Wrexham Make Ambitious Move for Free Agent Christian Eriksen

Wrexham have made a stunning move for Christian Eriksen in what could become the biggest transfer under the club’s Hollywood ownership.

The 33-year-old Danish playmaker is currently a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Manchester United at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Wrexham, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are preparing for their first campaign in the Championship since 1981-82 after a historic three-year rise from the National League under manager Phil Parkinson.

“Wrexham is a hugely impressive project,” Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots told the Daily Mail.

“But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe.”

An Ambitious Vision at Wrexham

Eriksen, who has 144 caps for Denmark, would bring a wealth of top-level experience to the Racecourse Ground. He featured 35 times for Manchester United last season, scoring five goals, and has previously played for Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, and Brentford.

He won both the FA Cup and EFL Cup during his time at Old Trafford and overcame a near-career-ending cardiac incident in 2021 to re-establish himself at the elite level.

Building a Championship Squad

Wrexham have already been active in the transfer market this summer, strengthening their squad with:

  • Danny Ward (Goalkeeper, Wales)

  • Ryan Hardie (Striker)

  • Lewis O’Brien and George Thomason (Central Midfielders)

  • Liberato Cacace (Left-Back)

  • Josh Windass (Attacking Midfielder)

But a potential move for Christian Eriksen would signal their intent to compete at the highest level of the Championship and possibly beyond.

Season Opener Against Southampton

Wrexham begin their 2025-26 season with a tough away fixture against newly relegated Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday 9 August.

Whether or not Eriksen is part of that squad remains to be seen, but Wrexham’s bold approach highlights their growing reputation and ambition under Reynolds and McElhenney’s stewardship.
