Yoane Wissa Returns to Brentford Training but Pushes for Newcastle Move
Wissa Back in Training but Eyes Newcastle Switch
Yoane Wissa has resumed first-team training with Brentford after holding constructive talks with head coach Keith Andrews, but the forward is still pushing for a transfer to Newcastle United.
The 28-year-old returned to training on Wednesday for the first time since leaving Brentford’s pre-season camp in Portugal on 21 July amid tensions with the club.
Transfer Stance Remains Unchanged
Despite the positive discussions, sources have told BBC Sport that Wissa remains eager to move to St James’ Park in order to play Champions League football.
Brentford are open to selling the DR Congo international but value him significantly higher than Newcastle’s current £25m plus £5m add-ons offer.
The Bees are also keen to secure a suitable replacement before sanctioning any sale, with the 1 September transfer deadline approaching.
Media Day Appearance and Upcoming Matches
Wissa took part in Brentford’s Premier League media day on Tuesday, posing for official broadcaster photos and videos ahead of the new season.
Having missed Saturday’s 1-0 friendly win over QPR, it remains unclear whether he will be included in the squad to face Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday.
Background to the Dispute
The former Lorient striker had threatened not to train or play for Brentford again after leaving the club’s training camp early last month.
While talks with Andrews appear to have eased immediate tensions, Wissa’s preference to join Newcastle is unchanged, keeping this transfer saga alive in the final weeks of the window.
