Tammy Abraham Set for Aston Villa Return in £18m Deal

Besiktas Activate Abraham Clause – To Flip Him to Villa

Tammy Abraham is heading back to the Premier League as Aston Villa finalise an £18 million deal for the England international striker – but there’s a twist.

Besiktas, who had Abraham on loan from Roma, were obligated to buy him permanently. The Turkish side have now activated that clause, paying €13 million (£11.2m) to Roma – but only to turn around and sell him on to Villa at a profit.

Abraham, who completed his medical in England on Saturday, had travelled to the UK on Friday after both clubs agreed terms. Despite their reluctance to sell, Besiktas ultimately could not resist the profit and pressure from the player.

Premier League Return for Abraham

The 28-year-old striker, who has 11 England caps, returns to English football after a stint across Turkey and Italy.

  • 12 goals in 24 matches for Besiktas this season

  • Scored 39 goals in 120 games for Roma

  • Won the Europa Conference League with Roma in 2022

  • Spent 2024–25 on loan at AC Milan, scoring 10 times in 44 games

Besiktas confirmed the deal with an official statement:

“The conditions in the transfer contract of Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham have been fulfilled and the provision for the permanent transfer of the player has come into effect. In this context, a transfer fee of €13m will be paid to AS Roma.”

Villa Strengthen for Final Stretch

Aston Villa, currently fighting on multiple fronts, were in the market for an experienced striker to replace Donyell Malen, who moved to Roma earlier this month. Abraham’s return to Villa Park, where he enjoyed a prolific spell in 2018–19 (26 goals in the Championship), strengthens their depth up front.

With Premier League, European, and domestic ambitions, Villa boss Unai Emery now adds a proven goal threat who’s familiar with English football.

Transfer Deadline Nears

This move comes just days before the 2 February deadline, as clubs race to complete final business.

Tammy Abraham’s return could prove a decisive move in Villa’s top-four push and further cements their strategic squad building ahead of a crucial run-in.
