Tottenham Survive Bodo/Glimt Scare with Late Equaliser
Tottenham 2-2 Bodo/Glimt: Spurs Rescue Point in Champions League Thriller
Tottenham narrowly avoided a major upset in the Champions League group stage, clawing back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Norwegian minnows Bodo/Glimt, on a cold, artificial pitch 200km north of the Arctic Circle.
Having comfortably beaten the same side twice last season en route to Europa League glory, Spurs were surprisingly second-best for much of the night, and it took a late own goal to salvage a point.
Hauge Stuns Spurs with Stunning Brace
Jens Petter Hauge was the star of the night, delivering two moments of brilliance:
-
In the 49th minute, he curled a superb strike into the far corner to open the scoring.
-
Just 10 minutes later, he danced past Pedro Porro and smashed a low drive into the bottom corner, sending Aspmyra Stadion into delirium.
Tottenham, stunned and flat, looked headed for a shock defeat. Earlier in the first half, Kasper Hogh had squandered a penalty chance to give the hosts the lead even earlier, skying it over the bar after a foul by Rodrigo Bentancur.
Van de Ven and Late Own Goal Rescue Spurs
Tottenham’s response finally arrived:
-
In the 71st minute, Micky van de Ven powered home a header from a Pedro Porro cross to give them hope.
-
Destiny Udogie nearly equalised soon after, hitting the bar with a crashing header.
With just one minute of regular time remaining, teenager Archie Gray whipped in a dangerous ball that was deflected into the net by defender Jostein Gundersen, handing Spurs a lifeline.
Analysis: Spurs Flat Until Forced to Respond
Despite escaping with a point, Spurs’ performance raised more questions than answers:
-
Conditions were challenging, but not unfamiliar—Tottenham won 2-0 here in May.
-
Their attack lacked urgency and cohesion for long periods.
-
Manager Thomas Frank will be concerned by the lack of control in midfield and poor final-third execution until the final 20 minutes.
“We lacked tempo and weren’t aggressive enough without the ball,” Frank admitted post-match. “But I’m proud we didn’t give up.”
With four points from two games, Spurs remain in a strong position in Group E, but their Champions League form will need to improve ahead of tougher tests.
