Chisora: ‘I Don’t Have to Throw Tables’ Ahead of Wilder Clash
Derek Chisora says there’s no need for theatrics ahead of his April 4 heavyweight showdown with Deontay Wilder, as the two veterans prepare to meet in London for what will be the 50th professional fight of both men’s careers.
Known for his fiery press conference antics—including once launching a table at Dillian Whyte—Chisora took a more subdued tone this time, sharing fish and chips with Wilder before the launch event.
“I don’t have to flip tables, spit water, or threaten anybody. We both know what we need to do,” said the 42-year-old Londoner. “I don’t want to sell this fight with violence. There’s too much violence in the world right now.”
Mutual Respect as Milestones Approach

Chisora made his pro debut in 2007 while Wilder made his bow in 2008
Both Chisora and Wilder have promised a fierce contest in the ring, but outside of it, the tone was one of camaraderie.
“Derek’s my brother. But I need this fight more than he does,” said Wilder, 40, who admitted battling personal struggles in recent years. “I’ve been broken down and built back up. I feel like I’m back.”
While Chisora says this will be his final fight, Wilder is eyeing a world title run. A win could bring the American closer to a long-awaited clash with Oleksandr Usyk, with Chisora joking: “You want Usyk? I’m the gatekeeper.”
A Friendly Face-Off, but a Fierce Fight Looms
The two shared an unusually calm face-off at the press conference, chatting more than glaring, before Wilder closed the event with his trademark “Bomb Squad” shout.
Despite the mutual admiration, the stakes are high:
-
Chisora is hoping to retire on a high note after nearly two decades in the ring.
-
Wilder, the former WBC champion, is chasing a return to the top after losing four of his last six fights.
Both men understand that April 4 could define the legacy of their late-career resurgence.
A Packed Weekend for UK Boxing Fans
Chisora vs. Wilder will headline at London’s O2 Arena, marking Wilder’s second fight on UK soil. But the weekend is crowded with boxing action:
-
Lauren Price defends her welterweight world title in Cardiff on the same night.
-
Caroline Dubois and Terri Harper square off in a lightweight unification clash on April 5 in London.
