Rashford passes Barcelona medical ahead of season-long loan

Marcus Rashford has completed his medical at Barcelona, moving closer to finalising a season-long loan deal from Manchester United.

The 27-year-old England forward arrived in Catalonia on Sunday night after United granted permission for him to complete the move. Rashford was greeted at the club’s training complex on Monday morning by Barcelona manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco.

Talks between the two clubs accelerated last week, with an agreement reached over the weekend.

Details of Rashford’s loan move

  • Barcelona will cover Rashford’s wages during his loan spell, after the player accepted a 25% pay cut, saving United around £14m.

  • The deal includes an option to buy for £30.3m (€35m) at the end of the loan.

  • Rashford will be unveiled to the media on Wednesday.

The forward has long admired Barcelona and publicly stated in December he wanted a “new challenge” after being dropped by United boss Ruben Amorim.

Second consecutive loan spell

This marks Rashford’s second loan in as many seasons, after spending the second half of 2024-25 at Aston Villa.

Barcelona are working to register Rashford for La Liga competition but, even if registration takes time, he can train and feature in non-competitive matches.

The club hopes Rashford can join their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea later this week. If he does, he could face former United team-mate Jesse Lingard, who currently plays for FC Seoul, on 31 July.

Pogba on Rashford’s exit

Speaking to YouTuber IShowSpeed, former United midfielder Paul Pogba commented:

“I’m happy for him because they [United] took his number. Manchester United are losing a great player. Unlucky for them. It’s great for Barcelona.

It’s not really Amorim’s fault. If he doesn’t believe in someone, he needs to win. If he doesn’t win they’re going to sack him.”
