Sean Longstaff Joins Leeds from Newcastle in £12m Deal
Leeds United have completed the signing of midfielder Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United for £12m plus add-ons.
The 27-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the newly promoted Premier League side, ending his 18-year association with boyhood club Newcastle.
“It was going to take a lot for me to leave Newcastle, but Leeds feels like the perfect place for me and my family,” Longstaff said.
Longstaff Adds Premier League Experience
Longstaff made 214 senior appearances for Newcastle, including a goal in a memorable Champions League win over Paris St-Germain in 2023.

However, he struggled for minutes last season, starting only eight Premier League games with Eddie Howe preferring Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, and Joelinton in midfield.
“I want to repay Leeds for the faith they’ve shown in me. Every time I played at Elland Road, the atmosphere was amazing. Now I can’t wait to have that energy behind me,” said Longstaff.
Leeds’ Fifth Summer Signing
Longstaff becomes Leeds’ fifth arrival of the summer following the signings of:

Manager Daniel Farke is building a squad capable of competing as Leeds return to the Premier League.
The Whites kick off their campaign at home to Everton on 18 August, but first face Manchester United in a pre-season friendly in Stockholm this Saturday.
Following in Family Footsteps
Longstaff’s move to Elland Road continues a family tradition. His uncle Alan Thompson, a former Celtic and Bolton midfielder, also had a spell at Leeds during his career.
