Tottenham Open Talks for Man City’s Savinho – How Would He Fit?

Spurs Begin Talks to Sign Savinho from Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur have entered discussions with Manchester City over a potential deal for Brazil winger Savinho, sources have confirmed.

The 21-year-old, signed by City from Troyes for £30.8m just last year, could command offers exceeding £50m if the Premier League champions agree to sell.

City are reportedly reluctant to part with Savinho, but the recent arrival of Rayan Cherki from Lyon for £30m could reduce his game time at the Etihad.

Savinho’s First Season at City

In his debut Premier League campaign, Savinho made 48 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals.

While he only netted once in the league, the winger was City’s top assist provider with eight in the Premier League and created 46 chances, the third-highest in the squad. His dribbling threat was also evident, attempting 102 take-ons – second only to Jeremy Doku.

However, he underperformed his expected goals (xG) by four – the worst in the league last season – highlighting a need for greater ruthlessness in front of goal.

Tottenham’s Need for Attacking Options

Spurs head coach Thomas Frank is eager to reinforce his attack following the departure of Son Heung-min to LAFC and a long-term injury to James Maddison.

While Mohammed Kudus has joined from West Ham in a £55m move, Tottenham failed in their pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest.

Frank’s 4-2-3-1 setup leaves four wingers – Kudus, Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel, and Brennan Johnson – vying for two starting roles. However, the injury absences of Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski create a shortage in central attacking midfield.

How Savinho Could Fit at Spurs

Savinho is left-footed and has experience playing on both wings – two-thirds of his league minutes for City came on the right, while his standout season at Girona in 2023-24 saw him excel on the left.

At Spurs, his arrival could allow Kudus to shift into the number 10 role, where the Ghanaian has previously thrived for Ajax and West Ham. This would address Tottenham’s lack of creative depth behind the striker while maintaining pace and width in wide areas.
