Tuchel Sends Clear Message: England’s World Will Not Revolve Around Jude

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has made it abundantly clear: despite his global superstardom, Jude Bellingham is not above the system. The 22-year-old midfielder returns to the England squad for the final World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania, but Tuchel’s message is firm—no one is untouchable, not even a Real Madrid Galáctico.

No Guarantees, Even for Superstars

Bellingham was controversially left out of the previous England squad that secured qualification with a win in Latvia. According to Tuchel, the omission was a statement: England selects on form, not fame. Now back in the squad, Bellingham faces fierce competition and must earn his place in the starting XI.

“Jude accepted the decision in the last camp,” Tuchel said.

“He did what he does best—competed at the highest level and proved why he deserves to be here. But our world does not revolve around him.”

Competition in the Number 10 Role

Tuchel has publicly backed Phil Foden to play a more central role, having impressed for Manchester City.

“Phil should no longer be viewed as a winger. He is a hybrid between a nine and a 10. He makes things happen in the box,” Tuchel explained.

Morgan Rogers, despite a quiet outing in Riga, has also caught Tuchel’s eye, meaning Bellingham must fight for the coveted number 10 spot.

No Room for Complacency

With the World Cup on the horizon, these final two matches are seen as a testing ground. Bellingham, fresh off shoulder surgery and back in form for Madrid, will need to show he still merits the creative heartbeat role for the Three Lions.

“He has a hunger and determination to score, and we hope to see that translate into goals for England,” Tuchel said.

Surprise Inclusions and Exclusions

Bournemouth’s Alex Scott receives a surprise call-up, while Myles Lewis-Skelly and Danny Welbeck are left out, despite strong recent form.

Also absent are Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jack Grealish. The latter, currently on loan at Everton, has not done enough to reclaim a spot in Tuchel’s wide attack, while Alexander-Arnold’s exclusion further dims his World Cup hopes.

Marcus Rashford, enjoying a rejuvenation at Barcelona, and Anthony Gordon of Newcastle offer depth in attack, but both remain unconvincing as central options behind Harry Kane.

What’s Next?

Bellingham may be the biggest name in the England squad, but Tuchel is crafting a meritocracy, where even the brightest stars must shine to stay in the lineup.

For Bellingham, the mission is clear: dominate the next two fixtures and remind England why he’s more than just a headline.
