West Ham Sign Former Newcastle Striker Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson Joins West Ham on One-Year Deal After Newcastle Exit

West Ham United have completed the signing of Callum Wilson on a free transfer, with the former Newcastle and Bournemouth striker agreeing to a one-year contract at the London Stadium.

The 33-year-old England international, who was released by Newcastle at the end of the 2024–25 season, becomes Graham Potter’s fifth summer signing as the Hammers continue to bolster their squad.

“I’m excited to be joining a massive football club like West Ham,” said Wilson.

“A club that shares a similar passion to mine – hard work, dedication, and striving for success.”

Wilson Looking to Reignite Career in East London

Wilson’s final season at Newcastle was hampered by injuries and limited opportunities, as Alexander Isak became the preferred striker under Eddie Howe. He managed just 18 Premier League appearances, mostly from the bench.

Despite interest from other Premier League sides and clubs in Major League Soccer, Wilson opted for a return to regular top-flight action with West Ham.

Impressive Premier League Record

  • 49 goals in 130 appearances for Newcastle (2020–2024)

  • Scored 67 goals for Bournemouth before that

  • 9 England caps, with international goals against the USA and San Marino

His experience and eye for goal are expected to play a key role in West Ham’s push for a higher league finish under Potter.

West Ham’s Summer Transfer Business So Far

  • Jean-Clair Todibo (CB – Nice)

  • El Hadji Malick Diouf (MF – Senegal U20)

  • Kyle Walker-Peters (RB – Southampton)

  • Daniel Cummings (GK – West Ham Academy)

  • Callum Wilson (ST – Free Agent)

The club also remains interested in Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, with talks reportedly ongoing.

Potter Building a Balanced, Experienced Squad

New manager Graham Potter is focusing on building a well-drilled and versatile team, combining youth prospects with seasoned professionals like Wilson. The striker’s arrival adds depth and leadership to a front line that lacked cutting edge last season.

Wilson, known for his intelligent movement and poacher’s instinct, will offer a strong rotational option — or possibly even challenge for a starting role — as West Ham target a top-seven finish.
