Whyte: Joshua Should Face Jake Paul if the Money’s Right
Whyte: Joshua vs Paul Makes Sense if the Numbers Work
British heavyweight Dillian Whyte believes Anthony Joshua should fight Jake Paul if the purse is right — but says he still wants to settle unfinished business with Joshua.
Whyte, 37, will enter as a huge underdog when he faces rising prospect Moses Itauma in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
The potential Joshua–Paul crossover bout has gained momentum in recent weeks, with Whyte acknowledging the financial logic.
“It’s a business, man. If [Joshua v Paul] makes sense and does numbers, why not?” Whyte told BBC Sport.
“He’s won the championship twice, had a lot of fights, and done a lot. I’m sure he’d make more money than in some of his title fights.”
Unfinished Business with Joshua
Whyte lost to Joshua in 2015 for the British heavyweight title in a heated grudge match.
A rematch scheduled for 2023 was cancelled after Whyte failed a drug test, though he protested his innocence and claimed to have been cleared of wrongdoing before returning to the ring in March 2024.
“I would love to have a chance to right my wrong,” Whyte said.
Taking on the Dangerous Moses Itauma
Whyte, nicknamed The Body Snatcher, has 31 wins from 34 fights but has struggled for momentum since his 2022 world title defeat to Tyson Fury.
He stopped Ebenezer Tetteh in December but admits he wasn’t at his best.
The veteran says part of his motivation to face Itauma — a 20-year-old southpaw considered one of boxing’s hottest prospects — is to take risks other fighters avoid.
“Nobody wants to fight [Itauma]. I love competing, I love a test. I like doing what people say I can’t do,” Whyte said.
“The underdog is a very dangerous dog.”
