Liverpool’s £35m Guehi Transfer Collapses on Deadline Day
Liverpool’s £35m Deal for Marc Guehi Collapses on Deadline Day
Liverpool’s pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has collapsed just hours before the summer transfer window closed.
The £35m+ deal, which had been agreed in principle, fell apart after Palace pulled out due to difficulties securing adequate replacements. Although 19-year-old Jaydee Canvot was signed from Toulouse, the club failed to land their main target, Igor Julio, who instead joined West Ham.
Guehi had completed a medical and was ready to sign a long-term deal with the Premier League champions, but Palace’s insistence on securing two new defenders ultimately blocked the transfer.
Why Did the Deal Collapse?
-
Guehi passed his medical and all personal terms were agreed.
-
Palace refused to sell without confirming two defensive signings.
-
With only Canvot signed, and Igor Julio choosing West Ham, the move was cancelled.
-
Guehi will now remain at Palace, at least until January.
Busy Deadline Day for Liverpool
-
Liverpool also agreed a British record £125m deal for Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
-
They were seeking to replace Jarrell Quansah, who moved to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer.
-
Defensive concerns remain, with six goals conceded in the first three games of the season.
Guehi’s Future Still Uncertain
-
Guehi is in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park.
-
He has informed Palace he will not sign an extension.
-
The 25-year-old captained Palace to their first-ever major trophy and has since broken into the England national team.
Despite staying put for now, Guehi’s long-term future remains uncertain, with Liverpool likely to return for him in January or next summer.
