Alcaraz to Face Amateurs in Million Dollar One Point Slam Showdown

World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz will headline a revolutionary new tennis event offering amateurs the chance to win A$1 million by defeating top professionals in a single-point knockout format.

Dubbed the Million Dollar One Point Slam, the event will return to Melbourne Park in the build-up to the 2025 Australian Open, featuring 22 pro players and 10 amateurs in a fast-paced, all-or-nothing format. The winner walks away with £490,000.

One Point. One Shot. One Million.

In this unique format:

  • Players decide who serves with rock, paper, scissors

  • Matches consist of only one point

  • No second chances: win the point or go home

  • Pros serve once, amateurs get two serves

The final rounds will take place under the lights at Rod Laver Arena in a prime-time night session on 14 January 2025.

From Clubs to Centre Court

Any Australian citizen or international player registered with Tennis Australia can enter local One Point Slam events at grassroots clubs across the country.

  • 1 amateur from each state/territory will qualify

  • Additional spots available through December qualifiers

  • A mix of amateurs, lower-ranked pros, celebrities, and sports stars will enter the early rounds

Prize Pool Rivals Grand Slam Earnings

To highlight the stakes:

  • 2025 Australian Open semi-finalists earned A$1.1 million (~£540k)

  • One Point Slam champion wins A$1 million (~£490k) for a single night’s work

  • Previous winner Omar Jasika returns after winning the inaugural 2024 edition when Andrey Rublev, then top-10, faulted on serve in the quarter-finals

Alcaraz Leads Star-Studded Line-up

While Carlos Alcaraz is the headline act, more big-name players and celebrity participants are set to be announced, adding glitz and spectacle to this crowd-friendly competition.

Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley said:

“Whether you’re an amateur or a pro, the ultimate winner will walk away with the prize. This event puts everyone on equal footing—for one point, at least.”

Why This Matters

  • Engagement: An exciting bridge between elite sport and recreational players

  • Innovation: A tennis format that’s viewer-friendly, high-stakes, and unpredictable

  • Growth: Elevates grassroots tennis by offering a path to centre court for amateurs

The Million Dollar One Point Slam could become one of the most talked-about spectacles of the 2025 tennis season—especially if an amateur shocks the world and defeats the reigning Grand Slam champion.
