LIV Golf postpones June’s New Orleans event

LIV Golf has postponed its scheduled June tournament in New Orleans, creating fresh uncertainty around the future of the Saudi Arabia-backed series.

US officials confirmed on Tuesday that the event will be rescheduled, with reports suggesting LIV Golf is discussing alternative dates in September or October with Louisiana authorities.

Organisers were said to be keen to avoid extreme summer heat and ensure Bayou Oaks at City Park is in ideal championship condition. LIV also reportedly wanted to avoid a scheduling clash with this summer’s World Cup.

Louisiana governor Jeff Landry and economic development secretary Susan Bourgeois confirmed the state had already paid $3.2 million under its agreement with LIV Golf.

Of that amount, $2 million has already been invested in course upgrades, while the remaining $1.2 million is expected to be returned.

“We appreciate LIV’s good-faith efforts and look forward to maintaining our partnership as we continue conversations around an event later this year,” the statement said.

The postponement means LIV Golf will go three months without a tournament in the United States, from 10 May until the next scheduled event at Trump Bedminster in New Jersey on 6 August.

The move is likely to fuel further speculation over LIV Golf’s long-term future, following recent reports that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund may reduce or end financial backing.

Earlier this month, LIV chief executive Scott O’Neil insisted the 2026 season would continue “as planned and uninterrupted”.

However, the cancellation of a published event leaves a significant gap in the schedule and raises further questions as the tour seeks long-term stability.
