Chelsea’s £42m Gittens Bid Rejected by Dortmund
Chelsea have had a bid worth over £42 million rejected by Borussia Dortmund for highly rated English winger Jamie Gittens, as the Bundesliga side hold firm on their valuation.
The 20-year-old England Under-21 international, who joined Dortmund from Manchester City’s academy in 2020, is reportedly keen on a move to Stamford Bridge. Gittens has a seven-year contract offer on the table from Chelsea, but negotiations between the clubs remain stalled.
Despite not fitting into Niko Kovac’s tactical plans, the new Dortmund boss has not sanctioned Gittens’ departure for the offered sum. This has left Chelsea facing a race against time, with the first Club World Cup squad submission deadline looming on Tuesday evening.
Chelsea Still Keen, But Exploring Alternatives

Dortmund reject £42m bid for Gittens
While Chelsea have not ruled out returning with an improved offer, they are also monitoring alternatives such as Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United) and Mohammed Kudus (West Ham) as backup options if negotiations with Dortmund collapse.
Additionally, the Blues have ended their pursuit of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, citing a wide valuation gap. Milan are demanding £25m for the France international, who turns 30 next month, while Chelsea reportedly value him at around £12.5m.
Gittens’ Dortmund Rise
Gittens has developed significantly since arriving in Germany, becoming one of Dortmund’s brightest young stars. He made his Bundesliga debut in 2022, and last season he scored eight goals in 32 league appearances.
The winger’s potential departure comes just days after Dortmund secured another English prospect – Jobe Bellingham – from Sunderland in a £31m deal, raising speculation about Gittens’ future role in the squad.
What’s Next?
With Dortmund holding firm and Chelsea actively pursuing multiple targets, Gittens’ immediate future remains uncertain. If no agreement is reached before the Club World Cup registration deadline, any transfer would likely take place later in the summer.
