Thomas Frank appointed Tottenham head coach until 2028

Tottenham Hotspur have named Thomas Frank as their new head coach on a contract running until 2028, following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou earlier this month.

The 51-year-old Dane arrives from Brentford, where he spent seven years and led the club to their first-ever Premier League promotion in 2021. Despite Tottenham’s poor 17th-place league finish, Frank inherits a squad that has qualified for next season’s Champions League after winning the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Frank becomes Spurs’ fourth permanent manager since June 2021, and brings several key staff members with him, including:

  • Assistant coach Justin Cochrane

  • Head of performance Chris Haslam

  • Analyst Joe Newton

  • Assistant coach Andreas Georgson (from Manchester United)

In a statement, Brentford praised Frank for his “incredible impact” on the club, both on and off the pitch. Director of football Phil Giles described Frank as a coach who helped implement a lasting culture, develop talent, and connect deeply with fans.

Frank’s Brentford tenure included a Championship play-off win in 2021, and Premier League finishes of 13th, 9th, 16th, and 10th. Last season, his side scored 66 goals — fifth-best in the league — and led the division in aerial duels.

His Premier League managerial record stands at:

  • 152 games: 54 wins, 60 losses

  • 200 points from a possible 456

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero posted a message thanking former boss Postecoglou, appearing to criticize Spurs management for his sacking despite delivering a European trophy.

Tactical outlook under Frank

Frank is known for his data-driven approach and tactical discipline:

  • Few long-range shots: Brentford had the lowest percentage (23%) of shots from outside the box last season.

  • Targeted crossing: They attempted fewer crosses (675) than Spurs (752), showing a preference for precision.

  • Aerial strength: Brentford led the league with 1,210 aerial duels.

  • Foul discipline: Brentford were among the cleanest teams, second only to Man City in fouls committed.

Spurs fans can expect a more pragmatic, efficient and structured approach under Frank, who prioritizes smart play over volume in key attacking and defensive metrics.
