PSG Target Sixth Trophy of 2025 in Super Cup Against Spurs

PSG Eye Fifth Trophy of the Year in UEFA Super Cup Clash with Spurs

Paris Saint-Germain begin the 2025-26 season chasing yet another piece of silverware as they face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup in Udine, Italy.

Fresh off their treble-winning campaign, which included their first Champions League title, PSG have the chance to claim their sixth trophy of 2025 — a joint-record for most trophies won in a calendar year. The French champions have already lifted the Ligue 1 title, French Cup, Trophee des Champions, and Champions League, while also beating top European sides in the Club World Cup before falling to Chelsea in the final.

Record-Breaking Year in Sight

Victory over Spurs would move PSG alongside Barcelona (2009) and Bayern Munich (2020) as the only clubs to win six trophies in a single year. A potential seventh could come in December’s FIFA Intercontinental Cup final.

The Ligue 1 champions are built on a youthful core, with the youngest Champions League final starting XI of the 21st century (25 years, 96 days) when they dismantled Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich. Starlets Desire Doue and Joao Neves are just 20, while captain Marquinhos, 31, is their oldest regular starter.

Balanced Strength Across the Pitch

From the attacking trio of Ousmane Dembele, Doue, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to the dynamic midfield of Fabian Ruiz, Neves, and Vitinha, PSG possess elite talent in every position.

Full-backs Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi play with winger-like intensity, while Marquinhos partners Willian Pacho in central defence. In goal, Gianluigi Donnarumma remains among the world’s best at just 26.

Luis Enrique’s Transformation

Coach Luis Enrique has reshaped PSG’s approach by replacing superstar egos with high-potential talents. Gone are Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe — replaced by hungry young signings such as Neves, Doue, and Pacho.

A key tactical shift saw Dembele moved from the right wing to a false nine role, sparking a remarkable run of 18 goals in 10 matches. He ended the season with 35 goals and 16 assists, winning the Champions League Player of the Season and Ligue 1 Golden Boot.

A Potential Era of Dominance

With most of the squad in their prime years and a focus on smart recruitment over headline-grabbing transfers, PSG could dominate Europe for years to come. However, fatigue may play a role — they contested 65 matches last season, with only a month’s gap between the Club World Cup final and this Super Cup showdown.
