Chelsea sales reach £251.7m as Renato Veiga joins Villarreal
Chelsea Sales Hit £250m as Renato Veiga Agrees Villarreal Move
Chelsea’s summer clear-out has reached a staggering £251.7m after agreeing to sell Renato Veiga to Villarreal in a deal worth up to £26m.
The 22-year-old Portugal international will sign a seven-year contract once he completes his medical in Spain on Thursday. Villarreal’s fee for Veiga is close to their club-record signing.
Veiga’s Chelsea Exit
Signed from FC Basel for £12m in 2024, Veiga made 18 appearances for Chelsea and also spent time on loan at Juventus.
The versatile defender fell out of favour under Enzo Maresca, training with Chelsea’s ‘bomb squad’ after requesting to play centre-back rather than left-back.
Atletico Madrid had also shown interest, but Villarreal acted quickly to secure his signature.
Chelsea’s Summer Sales
Veiga’s departure pushes Chelsea’s sales total to £251.7m from 11 players, balancing their £277m spend on nine new signings.
Biggest Departures:
-
Noni Madueke → Arsenal – £48m
-
Joao Felix → Al-Nassr – £43.7m
-
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall → Everton – £28m
Other notable exits include younger players and fringe squad members as the Blues attempt to meet Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Transfer Window Business
Despite the sales, Chelsea remain active in the market. The Blues are targeting:
-
Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United)
-
Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig)
Meanwhile, several high-profile players remain up for sale, including Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, and Axel Disasi.
With the window closing on 1 September, Chelsea are expected to remain one of the busiest Premier League clubs.
