Brentford Reject £40m Newcastle Bid for Yoane Wissa

Brentford have rejected Newcastle United’s improved £40m bid for striker Yoane Wissa, as the Magpies continue their pursuit of the DR Congo international.

Newcastle’s offer consisted of £35m upfront plus £5m in add-ons, but the Bees deemed it below their valuation. Talks were reopened on Wednesday after Wissa held discussions with owner Matthew Benham on Tuesday, though no agreement has been reached.

Wissa’s Desire to Leave

The 28-year-old scored 19 Premier League goals last season and is determined to join Newcastle.

  • Earlier this summer, Wissa left Brentford’s pre-season camp in Portugal and threatened not to play or train if denied a transfer.

  • He later returned to first-team training but has remained clear about his wish to move to St James’ Park.

  • This week, Wissa removed all Brentford-related content from his Instagram, intensifying speculation around his future.

Sources suggest Wissa expected the deal to go through after Brentford signed Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth as his replacement.

Brentford Standing Firm

Brentford, however, are reluctant to sanction Wissa’s exit after already losing Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United earlier this summer.

While Newcastle see Wissa as a key attacking addition, Brentford are prioritising stability in their forward line and remain resistant to bids below their asking price.

Transfer Outlook

With the transfer window closing on 1 September, Newcastle face a race against time to secure Wissa.

The striker’s stance is clear, but Brentford’s valuation could yet force the Magpies to raise their offer if they want to complete the signing before deadline day.
