Tottenham Sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in £52m Deal

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Dutch international Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £51.8 million (€60m), as manager Thomas Frank continues to reshape the squad ahead of the new season.

Simons, 22, arrives at Spurs after a productive spell in the Bundesliga, where he scored 22 goals and registered 24 assists in 78 games for Leipzig. He becomes Tottenham’s third major summer arrival following Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus.

“It’s a great club, and when I met the head coach I knew straight away this was the right place for me,” said Simons.

“I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time.”

A Tactical Asset for Frank’s Flexible System

Known for his dynamic attacking options, Thomas Frank has already tested both 5-3-2 and 4-3-3 formations this season. Simons is expected to thrive on the left side of the front three, where he can cut inside on his right foot.

He spent 75% of last season playing on the left, but his versatility allows him to operate centrally or on the right if needed. Former Leipzig manager Marco Rose also used him in deeper roles or in a 4-2-2-2 “box midfield” system.

“Simons is a modern attacker — excellent at carrying the ball at pace, committed in high pressing, and capable of unlocking defences,” said coach Edu Rubio.

“He’ll need time to adapt to Premier League physicality but has huge upside.”

Creative Numbers to Match Spurs’ Ambitions

Simons may not have been Tottenham’s first-choice target — after failing to sign Morgan Gibbs-White and seeing Eberechi Eze join Arsenal — but his arrival softens those blows.

In 2024–25, Simons averaged:

  • 2.2 chances created per 90 minutes

  • Over 7 passes into the box per game

  • More through balls than both Eze and Gibbs-White

He recorded 11 goals and 8 assists last season despite missing 15 matches due to injury.

From La Masia to London: Who is Xavi Simons?

Named after Spanish legend Xavi Hernández, Simons joined Barcelona’s La Masia academy aged 7 and became a global youth sensation with over a million Instagram followers and endorsements from Nike before turning 15.

After a contract dispute, he left for PSG, debuting at 17 but found senior opportunities limited. A loan move to PSV reinvigorated his career, leading to a breakout spell at Leipzig, where he made his mark in Europe.

He made his Netherlands debut at the 2022 World Cup and has since earned 28 caps and 5 goals.

Simons speaks six languages, plays across the front line or as an advanced playmaker, and brings both flair and professionalism to North London.

What’s Next for Spurs?

With Benjamin Sesko having already joined Manchester United from Leipzig this summer for £73.7m, Simons becomes the second major Bundesliga export to land in the Premier League.

Tottenham now shift focus to finalizing late transfer deals before deadline day and integrating Simons into Frank’s system as the club prepares for their next league fixture.
