LeBron James Leads Lakers to Brink of Play-Off Series Win

LeBron James delivered another clutch performance as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Houston Rockets 112-108 in overtime to move one win away from advancing in the NBA play-offs.

The Lakers now hold a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven first-round series after James forced overtime with a dramatic late three-pointer in regulation.

With 13 seconds remaining, the four-time NBA MVP knocked down a huge shot to tie the game before narrowly missing a potential game-winner at the buzzer. Los Angeles then controlled overtime to seal another crucial victory.

James, now 41, stepped up in the absence of injured stars Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, finishing with a team-high 29 points and 13 rebounds.

Marcus Smart also played a key role for the Lakers, producing a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists. The veteran guard scored eight points in overtime to help secure the win.

“With two of our best players down, we’ve got to play desperate,” Smart said.

“That’s how we’ve been playing, and that’s how we’re winning. The chemistry has been good, and you’re starting to see guys’ confidence go up because of that.”

Houston were again without leading scorer Kevin Durant, who missed his second straight game of the series because of an ankle sprain. The Rockets now face elimination heading into game four on Sunday at home.

A Lakers victory in the next contest would complete a series sweep and book their place in the Western Conference semi-finals.

Elsewhere in the NBA play-offs, the San Antonio Spurs moved 2-1 ahead against the Portland Trail Blazers with a 120-108 road win. Stephon Castle scored 33 points, while rookie Dylan Harper added 27 points and 10 rebounds. Victor Wembanyama remained unavailable due to concussion protocol.

In the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics edged the Philadelphia 76ers 108-100 to take a 2-1 series lead. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown both scored 25 points for Boston.

All eyes now turn to Sunday as LeBron James and the Lakers aim to finish the job.
