Tyrique George Strike Seals Narrow Win for England U21s
George Goal Keeps England U21s Perfect in Euro 2027 Qualifiers
England Under-21s maintained their 100% record in the 2027 UEFA European U21 Championship qualifiers with a narrow 1-0 win over Andorra at Pride Park, thanks to a first-half strike from Chelsea forward Tyrique George.
Despite facing a resilient Andorra side, Lee Carsley’s Young Lions delivered a professional performance to stay top of Group D with three wins from three — and without conceding a goal.
George the Difference Maker
The breakthrough came in the 41st minute when Jamie Gittens, also of Chelsea, dazzled the defence with a mazy run down the left. His clever cut-back found George, who rifled a left-footed shot into the roof of the net to finally break the deadlock.
The goal capped a strong showing from George, who had gone close earlier, while teammates Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Ethan Nwaneri also tested the Andorran goalkeeper. Josh King thought he had doubled the lead but was denied by the offside flag.
Defensive Solidity Continues
England’s U21s have now kept three consecutive clean sheets, underlining the team’s balance between attacking intent and defensive control.
Head coach Lee Carsley named an attack-heavy starting XI, with George, Gittens, Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, Fulham’s Josh King, and Norton-Cuffy all providing pace and flair — but Andorra’s deep defensive block limited England’s margin of victory.
