Woods targets Masters after TGL comeback
Woods eyes Augusta return after comeback
Tiger Woods has revealed he is “trying to play” in the Masters after making his long-awaited return to competitive golf in the innovative TGL.
The 50-year-old returned after more than a year out, following back surgery in October, as his team Jupiter Links GC lost the TGL final.
First appearance in over a year
Woods’ comeback came in the TGL finale:
- First competitive outing since February 2025
- Showed encouraging signs physically
- Hit drives of 300+ yards
- Jupiter Links lost 9-2 to Los Angeles Golf Club
Despite the defeat, the key takeaway was clear: Woods is back competing.
“This body doesn’t recover like before”
Woods was honest about the challenge ahead:
“This body doesn’t recover like it did when I was 24 or 25… but I keep trying – I want to play.”
After multiple surgeries and injuries in recent years, his participation now depends entirely on recovery between rounds.
Masters dream still alive
The legendary American has a deep connection with the The Masters:
- 5-time champion
- Augusta debut at age 19
- Calls it one of the most meaningful tournaments of his life
The 2026 Masters begins on 9 April at Augusta National
Woods confirmed he will attend “either way”, but playing remains uncertain.
What happened in the TGL final?
Woods’ team started well but collapsed late:
- Led early in the match
- Missed a crucial short putt
- Opponents responded with three straight eagles
“We got our ass kicked at the end,” Woods admitted bluntly.
The loss aside, his physical condition was the biggest positive:
“It was fine physically.”
Final thought
This isn’t about results — it’s about possibility.
If Woods’ body holds up:
- A Masters return would be one of golf’s biggest stories
- Even a competitive appearance at Augusta would be historic
The question is no longer if he can play golf again —
but whether his body can handle four days at Augusta
