Bournemouth Agree £25m Deal for Chelsea Keeper Petrovic
Bournemouth have agreed a £25m fee to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, with the Serbia international set to undergo a medical next week before penning a five-year contract.
The 25-year-old was eager to leave Stamford Bridge in search of regular first-team football and even opted out of Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad earlier this summer.
Petrovic Becomes Bournemouth’s Second Signing
Petrovic follows French left-back Adrien Truffert, who joined from Rennes in a £14m move, as Bournemouth’s second acquisition of the summer transfer window.
He is set to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga, who spent last season on loan at Bournemouth from Chelsea but completed a permanent £5m switch to Arsenal earlier this month.
Other Interest in Petrovic
The Serbian keeper also attracted interest from Sunderland, Monaco, and Strasbourg—the latter where he spent last season on loan and was voted Player of the Year. Strasbourg’s ownership ties with Chelsea via Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital added intrigue to the transfer negotiations.
Chelsea originally signed Petrovic for £14m from MLS side New England Revolution in 2023. Manager Enzo Maresca was reportedly unconvinced about his distribution skills, but the goalkeeper showed significant improvement during his Ligue 1 stint.
Chelsea’s Goalkeeping Options
With Petrovic pushing for a departure, Chelsea have relied on Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, and new summer signing Mike Penders for their pre-season preparations. The trio are currently in the United States ahead of a FIFA Club World Cup final clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
Petrovic’s move marks another reshuffle in Bournemouth’s squad as they aim to strengthen under Andoni Iraola ahead of the new Premier League season.
