Rashford Among Five Players to Request Manchester United Exit
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho headline a group of five players who have informed Manchester United they want to leave the club this summer.
Brazilian duo Antony and Tyrell Malacia, along with Jadon Sancho, have also requested moves away as manager Ruben Amorim begins to reshape his squad.
United have agreed to give the quintet more time to resolve their futures, delaying their pre-season return until later in July. Should transfers not materialise, the players will be welcomed back to Carrington for medical and training support.
Rashford Set for Exit After Number 10 Switch
Rashford, 27, had been willing to rejoin the squad for pre-season on Monday but was left out of United’s plans after falling out with Amorim last December.
The England international spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he scored four goals and registered six assists in 17 appearances.
In a sign of a fresh chapter at Old Trafford, Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha, a £62.5m signing from Wolves, has been handed Rashford’s iconic number 10 shirt.
United reportedly informed Rashford of the decision in advance. The club are understood to value the academy graduate at £40m but have yet to receive any concrete offers.
Garnacho and Sancho Among Other Departures
Garnacho, 21, was told by Amorim he could leave after being left out of the squad for United’s final game of the Premier League season.
Sancho, meanwhile, returned from a loan spell at Chelsea after the Blues decided against making the deal permanent, despite paying a £5m penalty clause.
Antony spent last season on loan at Real Betis, while Malacia featured for PSV Eindhoven in the second half of the campaign.
United are due to face Leeds in their first pre-season friendly on 19 July in Stockholm before flying to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series.
Amorim’s Vision Clear Amid Overhaul
Manager Ruben Amorim is making decisive changes after a challenging first year in charge, in which United finished outside the Champions League places.
In February, Amorim was critical of Rashford’s attitude, saying:
“I couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it.”
The 27-year-old hinted last month that he would be open to joining Barcelona, expressing his admiration for Spanish wonderkid Lamine Yamal.
